Patriots signing kicker Mike Nugent to replace Stephen Gostkowski
For the first time in more than eight years, the New England Patriots will have someone kicking field goals for them other than Stephen Gostkowski on Sunday. That honor will go to Mike Nugent.
Nugent has agreed to sign with the Patriots, ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported. The 37-year-old was one of a handful of kickers to work out with New England this week.
Nugent has made 81.4 percent of his kicks in his career. He was 6-for-6 in three games with the Oakland Raiders last season and has played for seven different teams. He was the kicker for the Cincinnati Bengals for seven seasons from 2010-2016.
The Patriots are also signing Younghoe Koo to their practice squad. The former undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern won the Los Angeles Chargers’ kicking job out of training camp in 2017 and made 3-of-6 kicks before he was cut.
Gostkowski was placed on injured reserve this week with a hip injury. He had missed four extra points through the first four games.
