Pep Hamilton fired by Colts, replaced by Rob Chudzinski
The Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday announced they are firing Pep Hamilton as offensive coordinator and will replace him with Rob Chudzinski.
Hamilton was brought to the Colts from Stanford, where he was offensive coordinator from 2011-2012. He coached Andrew Luck there in 2011 and 2010 before Luck was selected by the Colts. Though Luck had enormous success under Hamilton in 2013 and 2014, the Colts did not like what they were seeing from the offense this year and decided to can Pep.
“Through the first eight weeks of the season, we have felt our offense hasn’t performed at the consistent level that we need,” the Colts said in a statement. “Because of this we’ve decided to go in a different direction and relieve Pep Hamilton of his duties as offensive coordinator. As head coach of this team, it’s my responsibility to make sure I’m doing everything we can to put us in the best position to succeed. We thank Pep for his service to the team and wish him all the best.”
Chud takes over as OC from his position as an associate head coach on the staff. He went 4-12 in his lone season as head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2013. A Miami alum and longtime Hurricanes coach, Chud was said to have strong interest in the Canes coaching job.
Firing Hamilton seems like a lame move by the Colts. It’s obvious Andrew Luck is seriously hurt this season, which is limiting his success. And I’d fire GM Ryan Grigson for his crappy drafting and Chuck Pagano for his worse head coaching before I’d get rid of Hamilton. Hamilton won’t be out of work for long.
