Tom Brady just won his fourth Super Bowl, and his greatest adversary is angling for a return next season to make up some ground in the legacy debate.

According to reports, Peyton Manning could announce as early as this week that he will return next season.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Manning has been convinced that all would work well with Gary Kubiak, who was recently named Denver’s new head coach replacing John Fox. There were some concerns that because of the injuries that slowed him and the Broncos’ coaching changes, Manning might not return for an 18th season. But it seems as if he will.

NFL Media’s Gil Brandt also says he hears Manning will be back next season.

Peyton’s stats dropped off over the final six weeks of the season and the playoffs, and that was likely due to his quad injury and possibly more. Pevious reports indicated that as long as he passed his physical, he would return next season.

Manning is set to earn $19 million next season. As Aaron Rodgers said upon accepting his NFL MVP award Saturday, we all want Peyton back. The league is much enjoyable when he’s playing.
