Phillip Lindsay sends message to Broncos after Melvin Gordon signing

Phillip Lindsay

The Denver Broncos made headlines by bringing in Melvin Gordon in free agency, and it seems to have motivated the running back the team already had.

Phillip Lindsay made clear Monday that he does not intend to give up his role to Gordon, though Lindsay did say his new teammate is “not my enemy.”

“When camp comes around it’s going to be battle,” Lindsay told Mike Klis of 9News. “I’m not just going to sit there and give somebody the job. They can. But I’m going to go out there and I’m going to battle.

“I’ve heard this stuff my whole entire life. And it’s never ever panned out how everybody has wanted it to pan out. Until someone proves me wrong, I’m going to continue to do what I do.”

Lindsay has two NFL seasons under his belt, and he’s rushed for over 1,000 yards in both of them. It’s understandable why he thinks he will earn the right to be the lead back. Gordon has reasons to be motivated too, so this is shaping up to be a fun battle in the Denver backfield. Lindsay should not be counted out.
