Ben Roethlisberger seems excited about Chase Claypool draft pick
Ben Roethlisberger already appears to be all-in on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ pick of Notre Dame wide receiver Chase Claypool.
After being drafted by the Steelers with the No. 49 overall pick on Friday, Claypool said that Roethlisberger called him right after he got off the phone with the team, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN. Claypool also said that Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster texted him not long after.
For the six-time Pro Bowler Roethlisberger, building good rapport with his receivers will be important. He missed almost the entire 2019 season with an injury to his throwing elbow and may not have too long left at 38 years old.
The physically-imposing Claypool, who logged 1,037 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns as a senior, should be a quality weapon for Roethlisberger. Let’s just hope though that he does not listen to Big Ben’s grooming advice.
