The Las Vegas Raiders may be bringing in some help behind Ashton Jeanty.
Las Vegas is set to meet with veteran running back Najee Harris next week, according to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Harris is scheduled to visit the Raiders on Thursday, Apr. 2, Rapoport adds.
The 28-year-old Harris is a free agent who is looking for a team to play his sixth career NFL season with. A former first-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 (No. 24 overall), Harris got off to a stellar start in the pros.
Harris was a Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2021 and ran for 1,000 yards or more in each of his first four NFL seasons. He was also remarkably durable and appeared in 68 of 68 possible regular season games over those four seasons.
But Harris left the Steelers to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers last season and had a hapless year. He appeared in just three games for the Chargers before suffering a season-ending Achilles tear in September (see the video here). Prior to that, Harris also had his training camp derailed after getting injured in a July 4th fireworks accident.
Now six months removed from his Achilles injury, Harris is drawing interest from other teams as well (including a major NFL contender). With the Raiders only having an underwhelming duo of Dylan Laube and Chris Collier at the moment to back up their prized 22-year-old bellcow Jeanty, Harris will certainly be worth a look for them.
