Video shows possible Najee Harris torn Achilles tendon

Najee Harris hurting his Achilles

Just one week after Austin Ekeler suffered a torn Achilles tendon, one of his successors on the Los Angeles Chargers may have just done so as well.

Chargers running back Najee Harris had to leave Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos due to an injury. On a 2nd-and-4 play during the second quarter at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., Harris was in the backfield to receive a carry but collapsed to the turf as soon as he made his first move towards the ball.

A troubling slow-motion angle soon emerged of Harris’ injury as well. The video seemingly showed a vibration in Harris’ lower left leg as he pushed off it. Take a look.

The mechanism of that injury combined with the apparent vibration of the leg and the non-contact nature of the play would seem to indicate a torn Achilles. What we do know for sure though is that Harris had to be carted off the field and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game by the Chargers.

Still only 27 years old, the former Pro Bowler Harris signed a one-year deal with the Chargers last March. But he has had a challenging tenure in Los Angeles thus far, in large part due to injuring himself in a July 4th fireworks accident over the summer.

The Chargers do have first-round rookie Omarion Hampton (who was starting over Harris anyway) and fourth-year running back Hassan Haskins to help carry the load in the backfield otherwise. That said, it is possible that Harris’ season is now over after just 15 carries for 61 yards over three total games for the Chargers.
