Rams cut player for bringing girl into dorm room
The Los Angeles Rams cut wide receiver Deon Long on July 31, and thanks to HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” we know why.
As shown on the HBO program, Long was caught bringing a girl to his dorm room at UC Irvine, the site of the Rams’ training camp in Southern California, which was a violation of team rules.
Rams head coach Jeff Fisher explained to his team that he had two rules for training camp: be on time and do not bring visitors into your rooms.
“What part did you not understand?” Fisher said to Long after calling the player into his office to inform him of his release, via Pro Football Talk. “Sorry, but this is our world, man. We have rules and we have to abide by them. I thought I made myself really clear.”
Fisher also told Long that he had previously handled a similar situation the same way.
Long played college ball at Maryland and signed with the Tennessee Titans last year as an undrafted free agent. He spent time with the Dolphins and Rams as well. Since being cut by the Dolphins, Long was picked up by the Eagles.
Maybe things will work out for Long, but he did learn a rough lesson about what “undefeated and untied” means.
