The Los Angeles Rams have given Wade Phillips a secondary that has the potential to be the best in football in 2018, and the defensive coordinator must be pleased about it. In fact, we know he is.
How do we know this? On Friday, the morning after they acquired star cornerback Aqib Talib in a trade with the Denver Broncos, the Rams sent the following tweet:

Talib was one of the anchors of Phillips’ defense when the Broncos won the Super Bowl two years ago, so it makes sense that the two are excited about being reunited. In addition to Talib, the Rams went out and traded for former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters, who has more interceptions than any player in the NFL over the past three seasons. They also placed the franchise tag on safety Lamarcus Joyner.
With what should be a dominant secondary and a defensive line led by a player Phillips has already given the highest compliment to, the Rams will have high expectations heading into 2018. Their offense already turned it around under first-year head coach Sean McVay last season, and Phillips has plenty to work with on the other side of the ball.
