Rashaad Penny is set to undergo surgery for a finger injury suffered during practice on Monday and is likely to miss 3-4 weeks, according to a report.
The Seattle Times reported on Tuesday that Penny, the Seattle Seahawks’ first-round pick this year, suffered a hand injury that included a broken finger.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says Penny flew to Philadelphia to have surgery and that he will likely miss 3-4 weeks.

Sources: #Seahawks first-round RB Rashaad Penny flew to Philly tonight and is having surgery to repair a finger injury that includes a broken bone first thing Wednesday morning. He’s out 3-4 weeks, which means he’s right up against the start of the season. Hope is he’ll be ready.

Though Penny was the team’s first-round pick, Seattle has said that second-year back Chris Carson is their starter. Carson, a 7th-round pick, looked the best among Seattle’s running backs last season, but his year was cut short due to a broken leg.
The Seahawks open up the regular season on Sept. 9 against Denver. A 3-4 week timetable would put Penny very close to that mark.
