The New York Giants are looking to upgrade their running game with a veteran back.
Jonathan Stewart is expected to sign with the Giants, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Now 30, Stewart had spent his entire career with the Carolina Panthers since being drafted by them in the first round in 2008. More of a straight rusher than threat in the passing game, Stewart had 198 carries for 680 rushing yards last season, averaging a career-low 3.4 yards per carry.
In New York, Stewart will rejoin his former offensive coordinator with the Panthers, Mike Shula, who was just hired as the Giants’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
