Reggie Bush wonders if Steelers players are tuning out Mike Tomlin

The Pittsburgh Steelers ended 2017 on a low note when they overlooked the Jacksonville Jaguars, and one former NFL player wonders if the disappointing finish was a sign of a much bigger problem.

In an appearance on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” on Friday, Reggie Bush spoke about the perception that the Steelers were looking ahead to the New England Patriots when they lost at home to the Jags in the playoffs last year. He said the team underachieving feels like an annual occurence, and he wondered if head coach Mike Tomlin’s job should be in jeopardy.

“It seems like this happens year in and year out,” Bush said, via Steelers Depot. “And I hate to start to look at the coach because I love Tomlin, I love what he brings to this team. But at what point do you start to say maybe the players aren’t responding to the coach or maybe there needs to be some form of a culture switch there.”

Bush isn’t the first person to wonder if the Steelers need to evaluate Tomlin, as there was even a report last year that some of the team’s minority owners wanted the coach fired. Pittsburgh is big on continuity, and Tomlin has an overall record of 116-60, has taken the team to the playoffs in eight of his 11 seasons and has a Super Bowl under his belt. Firing him would be uncharacteristic for the Steelers.

Depending on how things go in 2018, Tomlin could wind up on the hot seat if there is talk again of him having issues with Ben Roethlisberger and others.
