Report: Chuck Pagano could be fired during the season

Chuck-Pagano

The Indianapolis Colts continued to struggle in a home loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, and the seat underneath head coach Chuck Pagano is hotter than ever as a result.

Bob Kravitz of WTHR has not ruled out the possibility of the Colts firing Pagano during the season, though he does not believe it will happen this week.

The Colts are 3-4 and Andrew Luck has played poorly all season. Two of the team’s three wins came when Matt Hasselbeck started and Luck was injured, so you have to wonder if Luck’s shoulder — or some other injury — is bothering him more than the team is letting on.

The bad news for Pagano is that Indy’s schedule currently sets up perfectly for an in-season firing. The Colts are on the road against the 6-0 Carolina Panthers this week before hosting the Denver Broncos and their ferocious defense in Week 9. After that, they have a bye. If the Colts lose both of those games and drop to 3-6 with four consecutive losses, it would not be a surprise if they move on from Pagano.

There have already been plenty of signs that indicate Pagano is unlikely to be with the team in 2016. Should the Colts play themselves out of the playoff race (which will be incredibly difficult to do in their weak division), the team might pull the plug.
