Report: Cowboys considering trade for Amari Cooper

Amari Cooper

Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden may have insisted publicly that he does not intend to trade Amari Cooper, but that hasn’t stopped other teams from inquiring about the star wide receiver.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Dallas Cowboys have been gathering as much information as they can about Cooper and are interested in trading for him. They are not the only team, as the Raiders have also heard from the Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts, among others.

It has been reported that the Raiders are seeking a first-round pick for Cooper, which seems like an incredibly steep price for an underperforming player who is nearing the end of his contract. However, the Cowboys are one of the most receiver-needy teams in the league, and Schefter notes that Jerry Jones traded first-, third-, sixth- and seventh-round draft picks to the Detroit Lions for receiver Roy Williams in 2008. The move ultimately did not pan out.

Cooper has caught just 22 passes for 280 yards and one touchdown this season, and there have been rumblings that the Raiders are worried about his level of commitment. If Dallas is willing to trade a first-round pick, Gruden would almost certainly part ways with Cooper.
