Roger Goodell encouraged Drew Pearson to taunt Eagles fans

Drew Pearson

Drew Pearson had easily the most memorable draft pick announcement during the 2017 NFL Draft, and the Dallas Cowboys legend says his trolling of Philadelphia Eagles fans was encouraged by Roger Goodell.

Goodell, who received plenty of boos himself from the people of Philadelphia, apparently told Pearson to do whatever he wanted to anger the fans in attendance.

“I’m thinking he might say, ‘Oh, no, don’t say anything like that, that might get them too fired up, might cause a riot out there in that crowd,’” Pearson told PFT Live on Monday. “But to my surprise, he encouraged me to say that and to get the crowd even more riled up.”

And just in case the fans in Philly decided to take things beyond booing, Pearson says the NFL provided him with a strong security presence.

You can see the video of Pearson’s passionate announcement here.

Goodell is used to being booed on draft day, so perhaps he saw Pearson’s announcement as an opportunity to have someone else get verbally assaulted more than him.
