Many media members and fans are dying to see Roger Goodell’s head served face up on a platter complete with an apple stuffed in his mouth, but it doesn’t look like that will happen.
Goodell is employed by the 32 NFL owners and has been since 2006. TheMMQB.com’s Peter King says the owners think very highly of Goodell and are extremely happy with the revenues they are seeing under his watch.
Take this quote offered up by King:
“I am starting to get a sick feeling about how out of control this is getting,” one owner told King on Monday night. “But I am standing by Roger. He has been great for our league.”
Goodell also supposedly talked with many of the owners a few weeks ago and told them he never saw the Ray Rice elevator video. That was after the league announced a stricter policy for domestic violence offenders.
Unless the league’s “independent” investigation proves that Goodell blatantly lied and engaged in a cover-up — and remember, the investigation is being overseen by two of the league’s owners — the man will probably keep his job. That’s what we’re banking on. The league is probably thinking the “investigation” will give the public enough of a bone to have them quiet down, allowing this issue to cool down. By the time the findings are released, all the anger towards Goodell will have dissipated to the point he’ll be allowed to keep his job. He’ll still be disliked, but at least the rage will be gone. I guarantee you that’s what the league is thinking.
