Roger Goodell made $34 million in 2014

Roger Goodell

Roger Goodell’s salary continues to plummet. At this rate, the NFL commissioner might not even be able to put food on the table by the time his contract expires in 2019.

Darren Rovell of ESPN reports that Goodell’s compensation in 2014 was $34.1 million, according to a tax filing the NFL filed on Tuesday. That represents a small decrease from the $35 million Goodell made in salary and bonuses in 2013. It’s down significantly from the whopping $44.2 million Goodell grossed in 2012.

Poor guy.

From a public relations standpoint, 2014 was an absolute disaster for the NFL. Goodell was ripped for his mishandling of the Ray Rice situation and many called for his job. Despite that, the league continued to set records with ratings and the owners made a ton of money. That’s why Goodell takes home so much in bonus money and has a salary of *only* around $3 or $4 million.

Every time we hear about how much Goodell made in a fiscal year, we are reminded of that hilarious PR stunt he tried to pull with his salary several years back. It seems like the guy can screw up as many domestic violence cases or underinflated football situations as he wants. As long as NFL owners keep stuffing their pockets, they will have no major issue with Goodell remaining in office.
