Colts GM Ryan Grigson clarifies he doesn’t hate Chuck Pagano
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the NFL coaching carousel was the fact that both general manager Ryan Grigson and coach Chuck Pagano kept their jobs with the Indianapolis Colts. It was widely reported that the two do not see eye to eye, so now that they’ll be working together for at least a while longer, the fences are being mended.
Grigson told NFL Media’s Michael Silver that, on the contrary, he and Pagano get along just fine.
“I don’t think I’m a monster,” Grigson joked to Silver. “I might not be going out for beers with the head coach every night, but I do like Chuck, and we have a lot of fun working together. We bounce things off each other. We laugh, all the time. I just don’t understand why people think I hate the guy, because that’s just not reality.”
There’s something somewhat funny about Grigson having to say this in the first place. Reports of discord between coach and front office ran rampant, with one going as far as to say that Grigson undermined Pagano, while Pagano seemingly openly questioned the team’s roster construction. They’re going to have to play nice now, as they both got new contracts after the season that would keep them together for the next four years.
