Pro Bowler Ryan Kalil coming out of retirement to sign with Jets

Former Carolina Panthers center Ryan Kalil retired after last season, which was something he had announced all the way back in January of 2018 that he was intending to do. While that usually means a player has thought about his decision and is comfortable with it, the Pro Bowl center apparently was not.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Thursday that Kalil has decided to come out of retirement to sign with the New York Jets. The team and Kalil later confirmed the news.

Center was one of the biggest positions of need for the Jets heading into the season, so being able to add Kalil is huge for them. Kalil, 34, played for the Panthers from 2007-2018 and made five Pro Bowls. He was also named a First Team All-Pro twice.

Assuming he has remained in shape, Kalil should be able to help Le’Veon Bell back up some of the confident talk he has thrown around the past several weeks.
