Ryan Mallett cut by Texans

Ryan-Mallett

The Houston Texans have reportedly released Ryan Mallett.

The move, which was first reported by John McClain of The Houston Chronicle, comes just two days after Mallett had to meet his teammates in Miami for their game against the Dolphins because he missed the team flight. McClain adds that Mallett had been sent home by the team on Monday so they could decide how to handle his future, and his release was inevitable at that point.

The Texans had grown tired of Mallett’s antics, and his missed flight proved to be the final straw. The 27-year-old was also late for a training camp practice over the summer and offered a very immature excuse. And when he was benched two weeks ago because Brian Hoyer was playing better than him, Mallett pouted on the sideline.

It’s unclear if there will be any interest in Mallett if and when he clears waivers, though the Buffalo Bills are said to be in the market for a veteran quarterback and showed interest in Mallett over the offseason. The Texans will look to add a veteran of their own behind Hoyer, and one option would be bringing back T.J. Yates.
