The Philadelphia Eagles’ signing of Chase Daniel apparently is nothing to gloss over. The team may be giving him a chance to earn the starting job.
NFL Media’s Albert Breer reports that Daniel will be competing with Sam Bradford for the starting quarterback job of the Eagles:
The Eagles will be giving new QB Chase Daniel every chance to wrest the starting job from Sam Bradford, per source. Not signed as a backup.

Daniel’s contract is for three years at $21 million with $15 million guaranteed. That is much more than a typical backup QB’s salary.
Daniel, a former Missouri Tigers star, spent three seasons with the Saints from 2010-2012 and the past three with the Chiefs. He was playing under Doug Pederson in KC, who is now Philly’s head coach, which explains the big contract.
Daniel has only attempted 77 passes during his NFL career, throwing for one touchdown and one interception. Bradford is far more accomplished, but it sounds like that will mean very little in Eagles camp this year. Whether it’s because of injury or performance, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Daniel receive consistent snaps this season.
