Sam Howell may have to start for Commanders in Week 17 after all
Just days after benching Sam Howell as their starting quarterback, the Washington Commanders may have no choice but to turn back to him for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Jacoby Brissett appeared on the Commanders’ injury report Friday due to a hamstring injury. If Brissett is unable to play, Howell will be right back in as the starter on Sunday.
#Commanders QB Jacoby Brissett is now questionable with a hamstring injury that he suffered in today's practice. He was just added. That opens the door to Sam Howell potentially stepping in… and starting again.
Something to monitor prior to Sunday against the #49ers.

It is not clear how severe Brissett’s injury is, but it is always a worry when a player shows up on the injury report two days before the game. Brissett played most of the second half in Week 16, nearly leading the Commanders to a comeback win over the New York Jets after replacing Howell.
Having to turn back to Howell would be a little awkward for the Commanders, especially considering how brutally honest they were about the reasons behind the quarterback change.
