Sammy Watkins returns to practice, could play in Week 12

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins was cleared to resume practicing on a limited basis Wednesday, and there is a possibility he could play against the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend.

Bills general manager Doug Whaley said Watkins’ status for Sunday’s game will depend on how his surgically-repaired foot feels in practice.

“It’s too early because with these injuries he can feel good and he can look good and the medical guys sign off on him, but it’s how that foot responds when you put him in football related activities,” Whaley said, via the team’s official website. “I think it’s going to depend on him and how he feels, so that’s why we put that limited designation on him. We’ll see how he progresses not only before practice, but during practice. And the biggest thing is going to be after practice and the next day how his foot responds.”

The Bills could certainly use the help at the receiver position, as Robert Woods is expected to be out Sunday after suffering a knee injury last weekend. There was some question about whether Woods was injured on a play where Vontaze Burfict hit him late. You can see a video here.

Watkins had surgery on his foot during the offseason and felt discomfort in it during the first two games of the season. Doctors told him another surgery would not help and that he simply needed time. The Bills are hoping 10 weeks off was enough time.
