Sean McVay’s coaching tree continues to grow after the Atlanta Falcons hired his defensive coordinator Raheem Morris on Thursday.
The Los Angeles Rams coach’s staff continues to produce head coaches, as shown by one viral stat. Per Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network, Morris is the fifth of McVay’s assistants to land a head coaching job in the seven years since the Rams hired McVay.
Sean McVay has coached the Rams for 7 seasons. FIVE of his former assistants have been named @NFL head coaches:
Matt LaFleur
Zac Taylor
Brandon Staley
Kevin O’Connell
Raheem MorrisPlus coordinators:
Shane Waldron
Wes Phillips
Ejiro Evero
Joe Barry
Matt Daniels— Andrew Siciliano (@AndrewSiciliano) January 25, 2024

Perhaps more remarkable than the volume is the fact that most of these coaches have been successful. Matt LaFleur is in charge of an up-and-coming Green Bay Packers team, while Zac Taylor has led the Cincinnati Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance. Brandon Staley and Kevin O’Connell have not been quite as successful, but both have guided teams to the playoffs as well since being hired.
McVay might not be able to take all the credit here. After all, he was part of another coaching tree that produced much of this talent.
