Shamarko Thomas’ helmet-to-helmet hit in the Indianapolis Colts’ first preseason game was particularly costly for him.
Not only was Thomas cut by the Colts two days after becoming the first player penalized for the new helmet rule, but now he’s been fined for it. The league announced Friday that they have fined Thomas over $26,000 for his hit against Seattle.
Then-#Colts safety Shamarko Thomas was fined $26,739 for the hit that led to his ejection from last week’s preseason opener vs. Seattle. Thomas – since released and signed by the #Broncos – was the first player ejected under new use of helmet rule. Now fined, too.

The 27-year-old defensive back was signed by the Broncos after being cut by Indy. There is no guarantee he makes their roster.
