Giants DT Shaun Rogers has $500K worth of jewelry stolen from his hotel

Shaun-Rogers-SaintsNew York Giants defensive tackle Shaun Rogers learned a valuable lesson about his valuables while visiting Miami Beach over the weekend: Don’t leave a fortune sitting in your hotel room. According to CBS Miami, Rogers was staying at Fontainebleau in Miami when nearly $500,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from his room.

Rogers reportedly told Miami Beach Police that he left his room around 1 a.m. and headed to Club Liv with a group of friends. They later came back to his room, where he put the valuables in the safe and continued the party until he fell asleep at about 7 a.m. When he woke up at around 12:30 p.m., a woman he had brought back to his room the night before was gone and so was nearly $500,000 worth of jewelry.

Rogers’ possessions allegedly included diamond earrings worth $100,000, two wristwatches worth a combined $160,000, a gold necklace worth $50,000, gold bracelets worth $60,000, and a diamond necklace worth $70,000. Apparently the safe where he stashed them was locked shut when he woke up and needed to be pried open by hotel security. They realized Rogers’ valuables were missing when they got it open, meaning someone must have somehow changed the code.

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably thinking to yourself, “$440,000 worth of jewelry and watches in a hotel safe — that seems really necessary.” Nevertheless, it sucks for Rogers. I’m guessing that’s the last time he’ll stash more than $400,000 worth of stuff in a hotel safe before partying all night. If it’s stolen from your home like this piece of hardware, that’s one thing. Never trust an unfamiliar security system.
