The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting to hear if Aaron Rodgers wants to become their next starting quarterback, which has left many wondering if they will use a pick on the position in the upcoming NFL Draft. It sounds like that is a strong possibility.

Steelers general manager Omar Khan addressed the team’s quarterback situation during his media availability on Tuesday. He said that Pittsburgh needs to have four quarterbacks on their roster when training camp begins during the summer, but they currently only have two in Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.

“We discussed in Palm Beach a couple weeks ago, we go to camp with four quarterbacks. Right now, we have two on the roster and all options are on the table in how we acquire those last two,” Khan said. “I assure you we’ll have four when we get to (training camp).”

The math there is quite simple. The Steelers need to add two more quarterbacks, and the only ways to do that are via free agency, the draft or a trade. That means that even if Pittsburgh winds up signing Rodgers, they will still need to add one more QB.

Khan also told reporters that he believes this year’s draft has a “good quarterback class,” which may have been a hint that the Steelers will draft a QB. The big question, of course, is when.

Many analysts believe Shedeur Sanders is going to slide down the draft board in the first round. The Steelers have the 21st overall pick, and it sounds like they are at least considering Sanders at that spot. Though, Khan said the team is much more likely to trade down than up.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that Rodgers’ decision will not impact how the team approaches the draft. That also seems like an indication that Pittsburgh is planning to draft a quarterback regardless.

Rodgers spoke last week about why he has not yet signed with a new team.
