Stefon Diggs sparks Patriots trade rumor with social media activity

The New England Patriots may be interested in adding to their wide receiver corps after Antonio Brown lasted just 11 days with the team, and Stefon Diggs is one player who has been mentioned as a possible trade target. The Minnesota Vikings star has perpetuated some of that talk.

With rumors swirling that Diggs is unhappy in Minnesota’s sputtering offense and would like to be traded, the speedster has followed several of the Patriots’ core offensive players — including Tom Brady, Julian Edelman and James White — on Instagram.

Diggs also sent a cryptic tweet on Monday night that further sent fans into a frenzy.

Diggs has just 13 catches through four games after he caught 102 balls in his first season with Kirk Cousins last year. The Vikings have struggled offensively and rank 24th in the NFL in yards per game and 18th in scoring despite having numerous playmakers. It would not be a surprise if Diggs is open to a trade, but the five-year, $72 million contract he signed with the Vikings runs through 2023. New England or any team would probably be hesitant to give up a high draft pick in addition to taking on that kind of money.

The Patriots are always looking for ways to boost their roster, and Brady didn’t sound thrilled with the latest big move they made. If the price is right and they can make the money work, they might exploring trading for Diggs.
