The Kansas City Chiefs are in search of a new defensive coordinator after they fired Bob Sutton on Tuesday, and Steve Spagnuolo has reportedly emerged as the favorite to land the job.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was told by sources that Spagnuolo, who has worked with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid in the past, is likely to be hired in Kansas City.
Former Giants’ DC and HC Steve Spagnuolo has emerged as the favorite to replace Bob Sutton as the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator, per sources.
Spagnuolo and Andy Reid worked together in Philadelphia, share the same agent and have a mutual respect for each other’s work.

Spagnuolo’s last coaching gig was as the interim head coach of the New York Giants after Ben McAdoo was fired in 2017. Spagnuolo coached a few games to close out the season before being fired along with the rest of McAdoo’s staff, and he did not coach in the NFL last season.
Reid had Spagnuolo on his staff with the Philadelphia Eagles as a defensive assistant from 1999-2006. We’ve already heard one candidate mentioned for the Chiefs defensive coordinator job that would make quite the splash, but it sounds like Spagnuolo has the inside track.
