Teddy Bridgewater’s roster spot with Jets in jeopardy

Teddy Bridgewater

Teddy Bridgewater’s roster spot with the New York Jets is in jeopardy following the team’s selection of Sam Darnold with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft.

The Jets have a crowded quarterback room that now includes incumbent starter Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg in addition to Bridgewater and Darnold. There’s no way they will keep all five.

Among the group, Petty and Hackenberg could very well be cut, while McCown would be most likely to stay (Darnold being on the roster is a no-brainer). McCown played respectably last season and is said to be great in the locker room and quarterback room. That leaves Bridgewater in a tough spot. He is only third on the depth chart, and he was paid just $500,000 guaranteed.

Bridgewater got into game action at the end of last season, but he is said to need more recovery from his knee injury — something he is hesitant to talk about. He will have a lot to prove in order to make the Jets’ roster for the season.
