Priority number one for the remainder of the Houston Texans’ offseason is to lock down defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney long-term, and the team thinks they can do it.
General manager Brian Gaine sounded optimistic when discussing contract negotiations with the Pro Bowl lineman.
“I won’t discuss our negotiations publicly, but I’m optimistic that something can be done,” Gaine said Friday, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN. “[I like his] height, weight, [and] speed. The production, the performance, the pass-rush ability. The guy’s a disruptive player. He plays the run well. So we’re doing our best to fortify our nucleus of players, and we’d like him to be a part of it.”

Talks have been ongoing for a while, and the proposed deal on the table has been characterized as a “mega-extension.” It sounds like a matter of time at this point.
