The Houston Texans have dealt with trade rumors surrounding CJ Stroud this offseason, but team ownership is making another clear statement about the quarterback’s future with them.
Texans owner Cal McNair said Monday that the organization remains “fully committed” to their quarterback despite his underwhelming 2025 season.
“We’re fully committed to CJ,” McNair said. “We exercised his fifth-year option, so we’ll see how it all works out.”

The Texans did indeed commit to Stroud by exercising his fifth-year option. The fact that McNair is essentially punting on a long-term contract extension is certainly notable, however, though Stroud himself does not appear to be agitating for a new contract either.
Once regarded as one of the NFL’s bright young quarterbacks, Stroud only threw for 19 touchdowns last season and ended his campaign with an ugly playoff performance. That was enough to spark some trade rumors, but the Texans publicly dismissed those as “moronic.”
