A.J. Bouye is widely considered to be the best cornerback on the free agent market, and the Houston Texans would be taking a huge step back defensively if they lost him. Unless the team wants to risk having that happen, it may be time to write a hefty check.
ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that the Philadelphia Eagles are interested in Bouye to the point where the Texans are concerned they could lose the 25-year-old.
#Texans concerned about prospect of losing CB AJ Bouye to #Eagles, per source. #Texans to counter offer today

Bouye, who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of UCF in 2013, has emerged as one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. His 90.9 grade from Pro Football Focus was fourth among cornerbacks in 2016, and opposing quarterbacks had just a 58.5 passer rating when targeting him. Bouye had 17 passes defended in the regular season and added two more in the playoffs to go along with two postseason interceptions.
The Eagles, who are also looking to make multiple big splashes on offense, are determined to be aggressive in free agency. Don’t be surprised if they offer Bouye big money.
