Todd Bowles: Jets have ‘good feeling’ about quarterback position
New York Jets coach Todd Bowles isn’t saying much about the team’s quarterback battle, but he’s admitting that the team is quite pleased with where they’re at at the position.
Bowles said after Friday’s 22-16 loss to the New York Giants that the Jets like where they’re at at the quarterback position, but refused to give any indication as to who would start the regular season opener.
“I have a good feeling for where we want to go and what we need to do,” Bowles said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “We’ll sit down and discuss it as a coaching staff and move forward from there.”
Bowles did note that rookie Sam Darnold hadn’t done himself any harm with his performance.
“He didn’t turn the ball over, and he did everything he was asked to do,” Bowles said.
Bowles may not be revealing which way he’s leaning, but the choices he’s made probably do it for him. Darnold starting the third preseason game is a hint in itself, and after going 8-of-16 for 89 yards and a touchdown and doing nothing to raise any new doubts about him, it certainly looks like he’ll be the one who gets the nod.
