Tom Brady is already working to build chemistry with new Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammate Chris Godwin.
Godwin, who led the Bucs with 86 catches, 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns last season, spoke with reporters last week on a conference call and said he and Brady are already working on the chemistry.
“It’s not much conversation about what each other is like as a player,” Godwin said Thursday on a video conference call, via the Bucs’ website. “I think that Tom is a really smart guy and from what I can tell, I’d imagine he’s watched some film on us as a team so he probably has a pretty good feel for the type of person I am or the type of player I am. The few conversations we’ve had have literally just been trying to get to know each other on a little bit on a personal basis and get a little bit of familiarity so that meeting in person it’s not like we’re meeting for the first time and now we’re trying to play catch up.”
This is one of the big challenges facing players on new teams. Unlike the past when players and teams had offseason team activities to build relationships, familiarity and work on the play book, this year is totally different. Continuity from last season to this season may prove to be more valuable than ever, which will make Brady’s job even more difficult. But he apparently is doing his best to get to know his teammates and develop those relationships, which should help his transition somewhat.
