Trevor Lawrence had many a sports bettor kicking a hole through their TV on Sunday.
The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Lawrence led his team to a convincing 35-6 win over the New England Patriots in Week 3. Lawrence threw for three touchdowns at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. to help the Jaguars improve to 2-1 on the young season.
But it is what Lawrence didn’t do on Sunday that drew most of the attention. In the fourth quarter with his team nursing a 28-6 lead, Lawrence found some daylight on a 3rd-and-3 play in the red zone.
Instead of scoring however, Lawrence inexplicably went down at the Patriots’ one-yard line. Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten then punched in the touchdown for the team on the very next play.

After the game, Lawrence was asked by CBS’ Aditi Kinkhabwala about the bizarre play. Lawrence said that he was simply trying to help out Tuten’s fantasy managers.
"I'm trying to help support the Bhayshul Tuten fantasy people out there."

It is hard to know what exactly Lawrence was thinking on that sequence. After all, the strategy of milking clock does not really apply when there are still over eight minutes left and the other team still has all three timeouts.
Perhaps Lawrence did indeed want to spread the love and get Tuten an easy gimme for his first TD of the day. But this is certainly not the first time that the former Pro Bowler Lawrence has pulled some strange stuff at the goal line.
