Trey Hendrickson suggests he got low-balled by Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson is a no-show at training camp, and in new comments, he made clear that the team still has not given him a satisfactory contract offer.

Hendrickson spoke to Dianna Russini of The Athletic and said he and his wife have gone to Jacksonville instead of reporting for training camp. The veteran said he is still hopeful of reaching a deal with the Bengals, but the team’s last two offers, which both came in a 24-hour span, did not contain sufficient guarantees beyond the first year of the deal.

“I was more than willing to take less in some ways in order to make this work,” Hendrickson said.

EXCLUSIVE: Just spoke to Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who is currently in Jacksonville, FL. For the last 30 days, he had been at his home in Cincinnati and training.

But as training camp approached, he and his wife decided to leave.

Earlier Tuesday, Hendrickson posted a photo that made clear that he is nowhere near Bengals camp. He has no plans to change that until the team ups its offer.

Hendrickson is entering the final season of his contract and is due to make $16 million this season. He is looking for a significant raise, and also wants his contract to contain at least some guarantees beyond the first year. Evidently, the Bengals have not come close to offering that.

Hendrickson’s no-show is not a big surprise, and there are indications he is prepared to do more than just skip training camp if the Bengals do not reward him.

The 30-year-old pass rusher was a first-team All-Pro last season and has established himself as the biggest part of Cincinnati’s defensive line. He led the league with 17.5 sacks last season, the second consecutive year he achieved that tally.
