Report: Tyler Eifert hoping to return in Week 4

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert hasn’t had much of a concrete timetable for a return to action after undergoing offseason ankle surgery. But now we’re beginning to get a better idea of how he’s progressing.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Friday, Eifert is targeting Weeks 4-6 for his return but is hoping to be ready by Week 4.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 26, 2016

The 25-year-old Eifert was never expected to be ready for the start of the 2016 season after an ankle injury suffered in the Pro Bowl last January required him to go under the knife. He caught 52 passes for 615 yards and 13 touchdowns in a monstrous 2015 campaign.

The Bengals have a difficult stretch to open up the season (playing the Jets, the Steelers, and the Broncos in the first three weeks), so they’ll hope to get their burly tight end back as soon as possible.
