Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert had been aiming to make his season debut in Week 4, but it looks like he may have to wait at least another week in order to do so.
According to a report by Bob Holtzman of ESPN on Tuesday, Eifert is not expected to play on Thursday night against the Miami Dolphins. A Week 5 return against the Dallas Cowboys is seen as a more likely possibility as the Pro Bowler still has yet to put in a full practice or do any 11-on-11 work.
Eifert was hopeful about his chances of returning to the field by Week 4 and recently returned to practice in a limited fashion. But the broken ankle the 26-year-old underwent surgery on over the summer is no light matter, and there’s little use in the Bengals rushing him back, even despite a 1-2 start to the year.
Cincinnati will keep giving heavy burn to the likes of AJ Green and Giovani Bernard in the passing game, while CJ Uzomah and Tyler Kroft continue to split the tight end targets until Eifert is ready to reclaim them.
