A comparison to Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen seemingly lit a fire under New Orleans Saints signal-caller Tyler Shough.
Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver called Shough “poor man’s Josh Allen” in the week leading up to Sunday’s game against the Saints at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md.
While Shough understands it wasn’t a condescending comment or meant to diminish his abilities, the comparison fueled him in the Ravens game.
“I loved it. I knew what he meant by it, but yeah, obviously he’s an elite player, but it fires me up,” Shough said after he led the Saints to a 24-17 win over Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN.
The 26-year-old Shough isn’t close to the level former NFL Most Valuable Player Allen is at, but he has been showing promise in the short time he’s been under center for the Saints.
Against the Ravens, the former Louisville Cardinals quarterback went 27/34 for 252 passing yards and a touchdown, while adding another score with his legs on a game-winning fourth-down sneak with 1:28 left in the fourth quarter.
Shough, selected by the Saints in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, is a rising name to watch at quarterback, and he is even leading the league with 662 passing yards through Sunday.
