Aaron Rodgers after a play

Aaron Rodgers has yet to announce whether he wants to play for the Green Bay Packers next season. If he does, it does not sound like working out a new contract with the team will be an obstacle.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Thursday that contract negotiations between Rodgers and the Packers are “in a very good place.” The Packers are prepared to make Rodgers the highest-paid player in the league while also freeing up the salary cap space needed to sign Davante Adams and other players.

No topic has been addressed more this week than the #Packers and QB Aaron Rodgers. Things have gone quiet as it appears everyone is simply waiting for Rodgers to make his declaration. What it all means 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 pic.twitter.com/QmVYHR5qwE

A recent report claimed Rodgers is seeking to become the highest-paid player in the NFL by a wide margin. Rodgers said he has made no such demands, but he may not have to. He won the NFL MVP Award in each of the past two seasons. He deserves to be the highest-paid player in the league, even if it is by way of a short-term deal.

It seems increasingly likely that Rodgers will return to Green Bay next season, even if the Packers are strategically leaving him out of their promotional ads. Some wonder if Rodgers could still decide to retire, but the idea of him playing for a team other than the Packers is sounding more farfetched than ever.
