Vernon Davis Says Alex Smith is the ‘Strongest Individual’ He’s Ever Met

Vernon Davis is an emotional guy. If you weren’t aware of that before last weekend, I’m sure you are now.  By now we have all seen this picture of Davis one place or another.  If the Niners go on to win the Super Bowl, it will likely be the moment that sticks out in everyone’s mind from their playoff run.  Considering he is such an emotional guy, it comes as no surprise that Davis would speak highly of his teammates — even if it makes little sense.

“(Alex Smith is) a strong guy. He’s a warrior,” Davis said during an interview KNBR in San Francisco. “When I look at him that’s what I look at him as. He’s been through so much and been criticized. A lot of people have talked about Alex Smith and he’s by far the strongest individual that I have ever seen in my life, mentally and physically.”

There may not be a player in the league that is stronger than Davis.  He should have left it at mentally, which would have been fine and is something we can’t measure.

All joking aside, Smith has done a tremendous job of silencing his critics all season long.  Much of his success is owed to the way Jim Harbaugh has used him, but very few people believed Smith would ever be under center for a conference championship game.  Whether he’s the strongest player in the league or not, he has earned every bit of respect his teammates give him.
