Vikings fire offensive coordinator John DeFilippo

The Minnesota Vikings have struggled on offense this year after they signed Kirk Cousins to a massive contract, and they are blaming their offensive coordinator for the lack of scoring output.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Vikings decided to fire offensive coordinator John DeFilippo following Monday night’s 21-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The team later confirmed the news.

Despite having explosive playmakers like Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, the Vikings rank 20th in the NFL with 21.7 points per game this season. They have managed to score just 17 points over the past two weeks, and both games were losses to drop their record to 6-6-1 on the season.

Minnesota has the pieces to be scoring points in bunches, so you can understand why someone is taking the fall for the disappointing performance. Interestingly enough, DeFilippo has actually been mentioned as one of the favorites for a head coaching job that recently opened up. That seems unlikely given what has gone on with the Vikings this year.
