Von Miller appears to be ruing the big decision he made last offseason, and it is easy to see why.
Miller admitted he only received two contract offers last season when he was a free agent. He chose to sign with the Washington Commanders while his other option, the Seattle Seahawks, went on to win the Super Bowl.
In an appearance on Steve Smith’s “89” podcast, Miller admitted that he was kicking himself over that decision.
“Obviously I picked the wrong team on that one. It would have been three different teams with three Super Bowls, but that’s just how it’s supposed to be,” Miller admitted. “For me, I knew the Seattle Seahawks had a really good defense. I understood how good the Seattle Seahawks were.
“With the Washington Commanders, I just felt Jayden Daniels was poised for another great season. His rookie season, he went out and went to the NFC Championship. Last year, we got hit with injuries, not just at the quarterback position but all over the place. And those are some of the things that you just can’t calculate on teams.”
Miller’s reasons for picking Washington are sound, though it probably helped that they offered him a pretty significant sum of money to join the team. Betting on Daniels ahead of Sam Darnold was a perfectly reasonable decision, though.
Miller had a perfectly solid season for the Commanders as well, collecting nine sacks in 17 games. The 37-year-old has indicated that he wants to play in 2026, but remains a free agent.
