Wesley Woodyard: Tim Tebow Assured Him God Would Take Care of Broncos

The Broncos eked out a win Sunday against the Bears in improbable fashion. Down 10-0, Denver scored a touchdown with just over two minutes left. They couldn’t recover the ensuing onside kick attempt, but they were able to force a punt after the Bears went three-and-out (highlighted by Marion Barber running out of bounds on second down). The Broncos got the ball with under a minute left, moved it 39 yards in eight plays, and booted a 59-yard field goal to tie the game.

Even when it looked like they were going to lose in overtime, things went their way.

Linebacker Wesley Woodyard somehow stripped Bears running back Marion Barber who was breaking a big run. Barber’s run would have set up a winning field goal attempt for Chicago, but somehow Woodyard caused a fumble. It was one of those extremely low probability plays that seems to be happening in favor of Denver every week, and it led to a Broncos victory. So how did it happen?

Woodyard explained that Tim Tebow assured him God would take care of the team.

“Tebow came to me and said, ‘Don’t worry about a thing,’ because God has spoken to him,” Woodyard told The Denver Post.

It’s unclear at what point Tebow told that to Woodyard, but it was pretty obvious to me that the hand of God forced Barber’s fumble. How else can you explain such an improbable turn of events? It’s madness I tell you, madness.
