Darren Clarke drops gum on putting green, chews it again anyway (Video)
How immaculate are the putting greens at Royal Troon this week for The Open Championship? Let’s just say Darren Clarke would eat off of them.
No, seriously.
As he struck his putt on the 14th green during the second round Friday, Clarke’s gum fell out of his mouth. The putt went in, so he must have felt the gum was lucky. Perhaps that’s why he picked it up, inspected it for a few seconds and popped it back into his mouth.
Darren Clarke at #TheOpen: "Oops, dropped my gum. It should still be good.
[chews it again] … oh no."https://t.co/s52lHjM2O2— SB Nation (@SBNation) July 15, 2016
We’ve seen some crazy things happen on the putting surfaces at the Open, so Clarke using the five-second rule wasn’t all that shocking. A little grass never hurt anybody.
