Jim “Bones” Mackay will no longer be on the bag. Instead, he’ll be wearing a bag.

NBC Sports announced in a conference call with the media that Mackay has rejoined the network as a course announcer. He has signed a multiyear deal with the network and will be part of their broadcast team for the US Open next week.

Mackay is best known for being the longtime caddie of Phil Mickelson. The two parted ways in 2017. Mackay then joined NBC and served as a course announcer for them until 2021, when he was hired to caddie for Justin Thomas.

Thomas announced in March that he and Mackay had split. Just a few months later, Mackay is back with NBC to cover golf for them.

The 59-year-old Mackay is expected to cover several tournaments for NBC this year. Then his schedule is expected to become more established next year.
