Rory McIlroy filed for a divorce from his wife Erica Stoll in the state of Florida last week. A report published on Monday provided some insight regarding the circumstances surrounding the divorce.

US Weekly reports that Stoll felt lonely in her marriage to McIlroy. The report says that a turning point occurred when the couple’s daughter was born in August 2020. Stoll’s priorities reportedly changed and she no longer could be on the road with McIlroy for his golf as much. That reportedly resulted in a feeling that they were living separate lives.

McIlroy’s representatives confirmed the divorce filing and have said that the golfer is hoping to make this difficult time “as respectful and amicable as possible.”

McIlroy and Stoll met in 2012, began dating in 2015, and got married in 2017. The couple’s lone child was born in 2020.

The 35-year-old McIlroy finished tied for 12th at the PGA Championship over the weekend. The weekend before, he won the Wells Fargo Championship for the fourth time.
