The highlight of McIlroy’s run was unquestionably his chip-in eagle on the par-5 2nd. The shot moved him alone atop the leaderboard.

The run left McIlroy with a three-shot lead over Bryson DeChambeau. His personal streak finally ended when he finally shot a four on the par-4 7th, but all that did was maintain the lead he had built for himself.
McIlroy gave something of a preview of this on Friday, when he took a big risk and it paid off for him. Everything he is doing seems to be working for him, and he is looking like a very real threat to win the elusive tournament for the first time in his career.
