Once upon a time, Tiger Woods was a great pitchman. He may never have been as good as the goofballs of the world like Greg Oden, but his popularity made him a heck of a salesman. Then a certain sex scandal arose and most companies wanted nothing to do with Tiger. Sponsors dropped the world’s greatest golfer as though the well-being of their businesses depended on it. As it turns out, he’s still huge in Japan — no pun intended. Check out the Tiger Woods Japanese heat rub commercial:
I can think of a lot of other things that have to do with heat and rubbing that Tiger would probably make a better pitchman for, but that’s neither here nor there. The fact that he has become such an off-limits marketing tool in the U.S. makes this commercial 100 times funnier than it normally would be. Does this heat rub ad mean he’s more versatile than the great Peyton Manning? It’s definitely up there with this Aroldis Chapman commercial, but nowhere near as hilarious as Danilo Gallinari’s commercial which could be the funniest marketing campaign we’ve ever seen. Could Tiger be on his way to a Michael Vick-like comeback in the coming months? Time will tell.
